I am a 1994 graduate of the North Carolina State University Veterinary School. I have enjoyed a varied and exciting career for 18 years, and I have owned Lake Wheeler Veterinary Hospital for 12 years. While Lake Wheeler is not a big modern new age clinic, we strive to provide up to date care for all of our patients and treat them and their owners like family. Being a smaller facility allows more of that one on one care, that we all can appreciate is missing in most medical situations these days.
I have special interests in ferrets and coatimundis (South American Raccoon) and am the lead veterinarian for the Logan and Abby Fund for Coatimundi Rescue. I enjoy geriatric patients very much and find pediatric patients a welcome challenge and joy each day.
I enjoy a close relationship with local wildlife rehabbers. My staff and I greatly welcome the challenge these cases bring to us.
I also work closely with Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center, Pawfect Match, Fuzzy Connection and Ashley’s Angels Fund and Reptile Rescue of the Carolinas.
I have written a handbook to care for young and juevenile coatimundis. I have a number of published articles: Fall Issue of Triangle Dog Magazine, Exotic DVM Magazine 2008, Zoo Biology 1994, Yerkes Primate Center Quarterly News Bulletin 1994, Raleigh News and Observer, Wildlife Welfare Inc. Newsletter, NCRAOA Newsletter, Wake Living Magazine 2010 and NCSU-VMTH website. I have also been a guest on WTVD 11’s Ask the Veterinarian morning segment and I have guest lectured for Companion Animal Management 400 class and club from 2005-2009; as well as for the Pre-Vet Club.
I am a passionate equestrian and am enjoying training with my horse Londy for our first endurance race. I also enjoy my organic garden and have designed and published a healthy cookbook that is available for those who want low fat, low sodium and low sugar recipes that taste great and are easy to make. Hiking with my dogs and giving them loads of attention and care are also a large part of my free time. |
