Pond Point Animal Hospital was founded in January of 1973 by Dennis Doughty DVM and Richard Suhie DVM. In 1985 Dr. Doughty retired from active practice and moved to Africa to pursue other interests. K. Paul Rumble DVM was brought on staff in January of 1985 and became a full partner in March of 1986. In 1987 Pond Point Animal Hospital helped found Shoreline Animal Emergency Clinic in Stratford, CT. Our 5000 square foot climate controlled kennel has 34 indoor runs, a small cattery, a full kitchen, a grooming room, and a 40 ft. x 50 ft. training and day care room that has access to a 40 ft. x 40 ft. outdoor fenced area. The standard-size run is 4 ft. x 10 ft. We also have several 6 ft. x 10 ft. runs for those with larger dogs, more than one dog or those who simply want more for their pets. Each run has a raised bed, and we will furnish a fleece bed, or each owner can bring their pet's own bed. Each pet is individually let out three times daily into the fenced outdoor area.
Our kennel is not set up to handle overly aggressive or shy animals (towards people only). If your pet fits this description, it would be better for you to have your pet stay at a kennel where it will not be necessary to handle him during his stay. |

We provide amenities such as clean bedding and food and water bowls, but feel free to bring your own if you’d prefer. Toys and other personal items that are washable are welcome. We will administer any needed medication and follow your specified feeding regimen. (Alternately, we can provide a high-quality diet and treats for no extra charge, although eating their own food tends to agree better with most boarded pets.) We can also provide grooming services before you pick up your pet.
Veterinary technicians regularly check on the pets, and our kennel staff monitor the boarding area. You have the added benefit of knowing that one of our clinicians will promptly begin treatment if your pet gets sick during his or her stay. In addition, we can arrange for one of our veterinary team members to provide overnight monitoring for senior pets or those with certain health issues.
To keep all our patients as healthy as possible, we require pets that are boarding with us to have current rabies and distemper vaccinations, along with other species-specific vaccinations. We also require that most vaccinations be given at least two weeks before boarding. |

When boarding in our kennel our individual runs inside are 3’x 10’ ft. Each dog is given their own run, unless you have multiple dogs that you would want to board together. At least 3 to 4 times a day the dogs are individually let outside to a 20’ x 80’ft exercise area (half sun & half shade). While they are outside their kennel is cleaned, water changed if necessary, fed, etc. This guarantees a lot of individual attention. The kennel is climate controlled. We feed Iams dog food to our guests, though special diets, medication, and or special needs are not an inconvenience to us. We really want to be as close to home as possible. We offer boarding for our feline friends as well; they are in their own room away from the action of the main kennel. |
